Prey & Prayer

The hounds lightly lapping at your heels,
The wolves softly breathing down your neck,
Baby, hungry eyes do not acquiesce.

They're long and lean.
They're soft and wet.
Their waters run deeper
Than I would've guessed.
They are not the animals
I wish they were.

You are a dear
And I'm just a lamb.
But, together,
Bare will point the way home again.
We are the fiercest animals.
They'll never know.
